Unemployment in South Staffordshire declined by 0.3 percent in the month leading to November, according to the latest figures from the Office of National Statistics.
The number of claimants went down by 101 to 1,152, or 2.4 percent of all economically active 16-64 year old residents.
This was a drop of 361 claimants (0.8 percent) on November 2012 and a fall of 537 claimants (1.2 percent) since the general election, in May 2010.
Furthermore, unemployment in South Staffordshire, last month, was half that of the West Midlands average of 4.8 percent.
On the figures, Gavin said: “These are fantastic figures for both South Staffordshire and the nation as a whole. However, we cannot afford to get complacent.
“We are lucky to live in an area where business is booming and there are an increasing number of employment opportunities. I will continue to work hard to see that South Staffordshire wins the business investment that it deserves and to ensure that our local people are receiving the appropriate training to fill these jobs.”
