Gavin Williamson MP for South Staffordshire has written to County Councillor Liz Staples, cabinet member for education and skills at Staffordshire County Council to invite her to join the march from Perton to Codsall High School following her attack on his campaign for free and safe school transport for children who have to walk the treacherous three miles to get to school.
Commenting on this Gavin Williamson MP said:
‘Under the 1944 Education Act exemptions can be made for the provision of free home to school transport where there is not a safe route from the home to the school. So many residents believe that this route is not safe that 938 have signed a petition saying so. We will be marching from Perton to Codsall to highlight the dangers of this route and I would be delighted if County Councillor Staples could join us on the March but I completely understand if Councillor Staples would prefer not to endanger her life by walking the route.’
Last week Gavin Williamson MP for South Staffordshire presented a petition with 938 signatures to Parliament urging the Government to ask South Staffordshire Council to take all possible steps to ensure that free home to school transport is provided for all children from Perton attending Codsall High School.
On Saturday 10th March at 09:30am Gavin Williamson MP will be joining local residents as they demonstrate the dangers of the route by walking from Perton Civic Centre to Codsall High School. All are welcome to join’.
