Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, visited the recently refurbished BMX bike track on Legion Drive, Kinver.
The refurbishment of the track was made possible by £23,500 worth of funding organised by the Kinver Action Group. The funds were raised with grants from the Big Lottery Awards for All and also a £10,000 donation from the Ken Wrigley Memorial Charity. Further funds for the project have been supplied by Kinver Parish Council, The Anthony and Gwendoline Memorial Charity and from Brian Edwards through his Staffordshire County Council Local Community Fund.
The original track became worn out beyond repair following continual use by youngsters. Riders can look forward to a state-of-the-art four straight track which was constructed by Ricky Crompton of Dirtworks BMX.
The bike track will prove a big attraction with young people in the area which will be located alongside the skate park which was built in 2010.
After his visit to the track Gavin said: “I thoroughly enjoyed visiting the new BMX track. The amount of work put in to raise the funds is inspiring and I’d like to pay tribute to the Kinver Action Group who made this possible. They listened to local residents who said that they wanted a new track and now they have it.
"I know that the previous cycle track was extremely popular and is used by riders of all ages. Together with the skate park, play area and gym equipment, Kinver residents have a lot of wonderful facilities to enjoy.
