Gavin Williamson was successfully re-elected as the Member of Parliament for South Staffordshire following the General Election campaign.
Gavin secured 29,478 votes, which was 59.4% of the total vote and a 6.2% swing on votes from the previous election. This was one of the highest swings in the country from Labour to Conservative, one of the top increases in the Conservative vote, as well as an increase in majority by almost 4,000 votes from 2010.
Locally, all of the District Councillors retained their seats and 10 new candidates were elected as part of the Conservative team.
Commenting on the results Gavin said: “It is such a privilege to have been re-elected as the Member of Parliament for South Staffordshire. It has been a long campaign but it has been great to meet so many people. Tonight was a culmination of all the hard work from volunteers across South Staffordshire and I would like to thank each and every one of them who helped contribute towards this great result.
“I would also like to thank all those who campaigned on behalf of our District Councillors. Locally we saw all of our District Councillors retain their seats and I want to welcome the 10 new candidates who won in their local areas. This will enable us to continue seeing the competent governance and low tax that we have come to expect from our Conservative led Council.”
