The Perton Youth Club is set to hold a ‘Grand Re-opening’ event, later this year, to celebrate the completion of a series of renovations to its existing premises.
The refurbishment got underway after Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, secured permission from Staffordshire County Council for the renovation works to be carried out on the Perton Youth Club by Lloyds Bank and several other local businesses.
He contacted the Council after a constituent wrote to him, voicing their concerns that the Council was planning to reject an offer of support from the financial institution.
Lloyds Bank runs an event called ‘Day to make a difference’, where employees spend a day in their local communities carrying out helpful tasks, such as painting and tidying.
The Perton Youth Club was chosen out of eight applicants to receive this support, with Lloyds agreeing to paint the Youth Centre and to pay for all the costs associated with this project.
In response to a letter sent by Gavin, County Council chief executive Nick Bell called for inquiries to be made into the matter and later confirmed that the offer from Lloyds Bank and the local community to renovate the existing youth club had been accepted.
The Perton Youth Club was painted by Lloyds’ employees, last Wednesday. A series of further renovations will take place over the next few months, thanks to the support of a number of local businesses benefactors.
These include Supashine Window Cleaning, which has offered to clean for free all the windows throughout the building, Wisdom Photography, which is offering to photograph the refurbishment to publicise the work that the Club does in the community and Carpet Klean, which will be kindly be donating a carpet for the premises.
Gavin said: “I am delighted that this refurbishment is going ahead. It seemed incredible that the County Council would refuse help from a business willing to donate so generously of its time to support an important youth organisation within the local community and I am glad to learn that, in the end, it chose to accept this offer.
“Perton has one of the largest populations of young people in South Staffordshire and the Club membership is growing year on year. I think it is wonderful to see local business volunteering their time and money in support of such as great cause.”
