Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, is urging Staffordshire police to prosecute the organisers and participants of the recent riots at HMP Oakwood.
Gavin has written to the Chief Constable to raise his concerns about the lack of sufficient punishment for the rioters.
The police have been called out on a number of occasions over the past year, in response to prisoners staging demonstrations on the roof of Oakwood Prison.
The latest riot, in January 2014, reportedly saw prisoners barricade themselves in a wing for nine hours, resulting in damage to cells and the destruction of prison property.
Gavin said: “It is my belief that it is absolutely imperative that prosecutions are taken and that the full force of law is thrown at those criminals who have participated and provoked the riots in any of Her Majesty’s prisons.
“Just because these violent offenders are already in prison doesn’t meant they shouldn’t receive further severe punishment. We need to come down hard on rioters to ensure that staff and inmates are protected, and that our prisons are secure.”
