Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, is urging BT to improve broadband services in Pattingham.
A recent report by online comparison site uSwitch.com found that Letchmere Close, in Pattingham, had Britain’s 18th slowest broadband at just 1.2 Mbps. This compares to a national average of 17.8Mbps.
Gavin has raised this matter with the Chief Executive of BT and questioned if the company has any future plans to improve broadband speeds in the area.
Gavin said: “I found this report extremely disturbing. There is no excuse for broadband speeds in Pattingham to be so much lower than in other parts of the country. For too long, rural areas have failed to receive the same levels of investment and support received by more urban locations. This needs to end.
“Many people today rely heavily on their broadband, whether for leisure activities, to carry out their weekly shopping or to run a successful business. They pay the same amount for their broadband as anyone else in the country. They should receive the same service.”
