Foreign and Commonwealth Minster, Alistair Burt MP, has congratulated students at St Dominic’s School after they raised the plight of the Dalit people with their MP when he was visiting the school in Brewood.
As a consequence of this meeting, Gavin Williamson MP wrote to the Minister responsible for this area enclosing a letter detailing the girls concerns including a poem that they had written to highlight the issue.
Commenting on this Gavin Williamson MP said:
‘The poem that the pupils wrote was very moving and it is a real credit to the school and the girls in particular that they have taken the time to raise the issue of the exploitation of the Dalits.’
Alistair Burt, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said:
‘I am really impressed by the pupils commitment to those in such a difficult position. I read the poem which was very moving. I would like to thank them for this strong display of decency and humanity.’
