Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has welcomed the success of the Driving Recklessly on Pavements (DRoPS) Campaign which he helped to kickstart
The Driving Recklessly on Pavements campaign was launched by Biffa alongside Staffordshire Police in order to tackle increased incidents of dangerous driving through several tactics, including introducing a new prosecution system. Across the UK, there are over 30,000 incidents of reckless driving on pavements each year, with an average of over 12 per day in South Staffordshire.
However, following the work of Biffa and Staffordshire Police, with the support of Gavin, incidents in South Staffordshire have reduced by over 50%.
Commenting on their work, Gavin said: "I was so impressed that the Driving Recklessly on Pavements campaign led by Biffa and Staffordshire Police has resulted in such a notable decrease in dangerous driving incidents across South Staffordshire.
"It is fantastic to see their campaign going from strength to strength and I look forward to our footpaths and roads becoming safer following their efforts."
