Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, today visited a Work Club at the Wombourne Library and Community Centre.
Work Clubs offer support to job seekers, helping them to write their CVs and providing them with interview coaching.
At the event, Gavin talked with attendees about their experiences and the challenges that they were facing getting into work. He also asked whether there was anything more that could be done to help support them in their search.
On the occasion, Gavin said: “I greatly enjoyed my visit to the Work Club in Wombourne and the opportunity to meet the dedicated volunteers and careers coaches taking part in this event. I cannot praise enough all the work that they are putting in to help people seeking work in the local area. It is really great to see the success that these Work Clubs are having and the number of people that they are helping to get into jobs.
“It is hugely important that there is practical support and encouragement out there for job seekers. This is a particularly vulnerable point in their lives and we need to ensure that they are given the appropriate support to showcase their talents and make the most of the opportunities that present themselves.”
There are a series of Work Clubs being run throughout South Staffordshire, where volunteers and professionals offer their advice and expertise to those looking for work.
During these sessions, attendees can take part in a relaxed discussion over coffee, carry out a job search using the internet or newspapers, or participate in more formal training sessions.
A series of local companies make regular visits to the Work Clubs, including Static Systems Group Plc and McCain Foods Ltd.
