Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has condemned altered proposals for a housing development on the land off Landywood Lane, after previously fighting a campaign against the same proposals at the end of last year.
Proposals to build 136 houses on green belt land between the two villages of Cheslyn Hay and Great Wyrley have recently been amended and opened for public comment once more.
Gavin fought campaigns against the proposals firstly in 2013 and then again at the end of last year. His petition against the development were delivered to 8,000 households across the area by residents who joined Gavin in his campaign. The petition, which gathered 4,962 signatures was presented to the House of Commons earlier this year, will now be presented to the District Council.
Speaking on the altered proposals Gavin commented: “I intend to continue to fight these proposals that threaten our green belt land in Landywood and ensure that they are rejected. I am deeply disappointed that any sort of proposal to develop the land off Landywood Lane is still ongoing.
“Having already presented two petitions to the House of Commons, the Government already knows that these proposals are not welcome. I will be presenting the petition of 4,962 signatures to the District Council to reinforce the strength of feeling from residents.
“I have once again reiterated my opposition to the planning application to the Council and have called on them to extend the period of public comment from 31st August so that residents who haven’t already had they say get the chance to do so.
“This development is not wanted nor needed by residents of Great Wyrley and Cheslyn Hay. I believe that these proposals will not only threaten the identity of the two villages of but also irreversibly damage our green belt land.”
