Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, paid a visit to Halfpenny Green Airport on July 30th.
Gavin went on a tour of the site, during which he visited the control tower and learnt about the history of the airport.
He also found out about future plans for the facility, which include a new instrument approach to air traffic control and new hangers for business aircraft.
Gavin said: βI greatly enjoyed my visit to the Halfpenny Green Airport, during which I learnt a great deal about the history of the airfield. I have no doubt that all of the future plans for the facility will be extremely successful.β
Other topics under discussion included the importance of promoting business in the West Midlands, the need to attract top talent to the area and the long term objectives for the site.
Gavin received reassurance that there were no plans to run passenger transport services from the airport, a scheme that was mooted a number of years ago that could have seen many large aircraft operating from the location.
The visit was followed by an aerial tour of South Staffordshire in a 48 year old Cessna.
Gavin added: βIt was incredible to have the opportunity to fly in a Cessna. It was the first time I had been in a light aircraft and it was wonderful to see South Staffordshire from the air.β
