Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire dropped in to Featherstone work club to learn more about how they are helping those that are unemployed get back to work.
South Staffordshire currently has 8 work clubs that have been setup across the area, to support the local unemployed. The clubs work together in order to share expertise and have recently become a Charity known as South Staffs Work Clubs.
The Work Clubs are supported by qualified Career Coach and by Councillors, Housing Association Officers and volunteers who have a background in employability and training.
The Work Clubs are free to attend and offer a range of different services, designed to help those who have been out of work, to seek employment. They offer the chance to meet other job seekers to exchange advice as well as one to one coaching, advice on CV writing and cover letter, business start-up mentoring and talks from local businesses and support organisations.
They have strong support from partners in South Staffordshire and have received funding from South Staffordshire District Council, Job Centre Plus, the European Social Fund and several parish Councils.
Gavin said: “The Work Clubs are a fantastic scheme run by dedicated staff and volunteers providing an invaluable service to those who are looking for help to find a job. It’s good to see the District Council supporting a pro-active organisation and I would encourage all those who are perhaps finding it difficult to find a job to visit one of the Work Clubs across South Staffordshire.”
