Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, visited the site of Brewood Bowling Club last week to see the progress that has been made with building work.
The club, now based on Jubilee Park, Engleton Lane, was established in 2008 and players bowled on the outfield of Brewood Cricket Club on Friday evenings as well as at Penkridge Bowls Club.
The new green will create a brand new base for bowling in Brewood. Before the new crown green can be laid, extensive groundworks have to be carried out. The club is hopeful that their new green will be open by July of this year.
Gavin met with members of the club who explained the progress of the current works and their plans for securing further funding for the building of a clubhouse. It will be a base for the home and visiting teams and with a general area and a separate secure storeroom for items such as the equipment for maintaining the green.
In addition to grants from Veolia Environmental Trust, the Landfill Communities Fund, South Staffordshire Council, Brewood and Coven Parish Council, the club working hard to provide the remainder of the money needed, raised through a variety of activities and events including a cabaret evening, a curling night, a casino evening and prize draws.
On his visit Gavin commented: “I was very impressed to see the progress of the crown green at Brewood Bowling Club last week. I know that, when completed, it will be a fantastic base for the Club and a great place for members to compete. This is a wonderful project, which will provide modern sporting facilities that can be used by the Brewood community for decades to come.”
