Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has written to local schools in his constituency, urging them to take part in the Speaker’s School Council Awards.
The Speaker’s School Council Awards, which are run by Parliament’s Education Service on behalf of the Speaker, launched earlier this month.
In order to take part, school or student councils must be able to name a project that has made a difference in their constituencies. Big or small; what matters most is that they have led to positive change.
Every school that enters receives a certificate from the Speaker and a web badge.
Winning councils will be invited to Parliament to attend an awards ceremony in the Speaker’s Apartments, where they will be presented with a trophy by the Speaker.
On the Awards, Gavin said: "I think this Awards is a wonderful idea and I would urge all school and student councils in South Staffordshire to take part. So many of our local schools participate in community projects on a regular basis and it would be great to see them achieve the national recognition that they deserve."
The deadline for submission of entries is April 30th. Visit the competition website, www.speakersschoolcouncil.org, for more information, including tips to support school councils creating their projects, inspiration from previous winners and details on how to enter.
