Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, is urging Staffordshire County Council to carry out a survey on speeding along Orton Lane, in Wombourne, South Staffordshire.
Gavin first contacted the County Council in 2010, after a number of constituents expressed their concern about the dangerous accidents that continue to occur on the road.
In July 2013, the Council started carrying out extra police checks on the road and installed two, new Speed Indication Devices (SID). However, since their installation, problems have continued to be reported by local residents.
During one such incident, a speeding driver caused damage to a verge and hedge, situated on a bend along the route.
While the Council has announced plans to improve signage in the area within the current financial year, for many this does not go far enough.
Gavin is calling for the Council to send out a survey to local residents to determine how this issue can best be addressed in the long term.
On the traffic in Orton Lane, Gavin said: “Local residents have been voicing concerns about the conditions on this road now for many years and they deserve to be heard.
“The safety of local residents and drivers must be our first priority and I am urging the Council to take immediate action to address the speed of traffic on this road. I will continue to campaign on this matter until sufficient measures are put in place to ensure that cars keep within the designated speed limit.”
