Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has called on the Council to enforce traffic calming measures on White Hill, Kinver.
A number of Kinver residents contacted Gavin with concerns after a recent increase in drivers abusing the speed limit on this stretch of road, part of which has no footpath. Residents have estimated that some drivers have been travelling along the road at speeds in excess of 50 to 60 mph, almost double the current speed limit.
Gavin has called on the County Council to look into what can be done to make motorists more aware of the current speed limit of 30 mph and for those who ignore these signs, look into how they can be monitored and penalised.
Commenting on the issue Gavin said: “The safety of local residents and their families must be our first priority and I am urging the Council to take immediate action to address the speed of traffic on this road. The road is situated in a residential area where there are many young children around with a portion of the road without a footpath.
“It is extremely important that traffic calming measure are put in place. We cannot put a cost on the safety of local residents and drivers, whose lives are put at risk by speeding by careless drivers on this road.
“I will continue to push for a resolution on this matter until sufficient measures are put in place to ensure that cars keep within the designated speed limit. Residents shouldn’t have to fear for their safety when walking along the road. Action needs to be taken to safeguard local people, before it is too late.”
