Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, started the Kinver Rotary Club 10k race.
Rebranded this year as the Sheepwalks Shocker, a total of 313 runners took part in the main event while another 252 entered the 2km family fun run.
The race, which has taken place annually for the past 10 years, was in aid of Kinver Rotary Club’s chosen charity, Action Heart, a Cardiac Rehabilitation programme in Dudley, which was founded in 1978, and is one of the longest running in the UK. This year’s event was once again raising money for the Action Heart Charity based at Russell’s Hall Hospital.
Runners started the race in the grounds of Enville Hall, included an off-road section through the grounds of the Enville Estate and included a route through Kinver’s hills known as the ‘Sheepwalks’ which prominently featured in the previous on-road event.
A 2k Fun Run took place immediately after the finish of the 10k race, which is aimed at families and younger runners. Over its 10 year history the 10km race has raised more than £30,000 for Action Heart, with this year’s 2km fun run event also raising funds for Kinver Fitness Collective.
Gavin said: “I had a wonderful time at the Sheepwalks Shocker race this weekend. I am full of admiration for all the runners who took part to help raise money for this very worthy cause. Every year braver people than I enter this extremely difficult race and it is fantastic to hear how much money has been raised for Action Heart over the past 10 years.
“I would like to thank all the people who worked so hard to organise the event. You could tell how much effort had gone into organising this day and making it, yet again, a brilliant success.”
