Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, and South Staffordshire Council leader Janet Johnson re-opened residential housing scheme Corsers Court on Friday 30th May, following a £1.5 million makeover.
The scheme, which has been helping older people live independently for more than two decades, is managed by Care Plus, part of the Housing Plus Group.
The Perton development is now lighter, brighter and more modern thanks to a full interior and exterior modernisation, which was completed in January this year
Among the works completed, the scheme has been extended, and re-decorated and refurbished throughout. New windows and doors have been fitted, the gardens re-landscaped and a new hairdressing salon and treatment/therapy room added.
Gavin Williamson said: “I was extremely honoured to be asked to officially re-open the refurbished Corsers Court development. I was greatly impressed by the new facilities at the site and enjoyed being able to talk to staff, and residents, about the scheme.
“These extra care schemes provide many people with the vital assistance that they need to live independently. I was delighted to be able to learn about this latest project and I applaud the work that Care Plus is continuing to carry to ensure its accommodation is maintained to a high standard.”
Jo Grainger, director of care and support at Care Plus, said: “At Care Plus, our mission is to provide our residents with the very best standards of accommodation and care. We identified that our extra care scheme at Corsers Court was no longer fit for purpose and carried out a thorough renovation and refurbishment. We are delighted with the transformation, and hope our residents like it as much as we do.
“This was a challenging project for our development team because all the works had to be completed with residents on site, so we had to be very aware of health and safety requirements as well as try to keep disruption to a minimum.”
Corsers Court contains 54 apartments for the over 55s. Each has its own kitchen, bedroom, wet room and living area. In addition members can use a communal lounge, laundry, restaurant, IT suite and hairdressing salon, with the comfort and peace of mind of knowing a member of staff is on site 24 hours per day to provide assistance if needed.
Improvements carried out by contractors Wates Living Space include an extension to the front entrance to create a larger staff office and a comfortable seating area. The residents’ dining room and lounge have been redecorated and refurbished, the hairdressing salon moved from the first floor to the ground floor to allow easier access, and a new treatment/therapy room created. New staff offices and a new staffroom with refreshment area and lockers have been created, and the previous ones converted into a respite suite and an en-suite guest room. The scheme also has increased storage, new UPVC windows, new apartment entrance doors, updated internal and external signage, and reconfigured gardens.
Extra care housing provides older people with the opportunity to live independently in their own self-contained homes, with access to communal facilities and to care and support on site if they need it.
