Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, joined the Friends of Bilbrook to plant trees marking the 800th anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta.
Gavin met the group in Jubilee Wood in Bilbrook to plant a yew tree, the same type of tree under which the Magna Carta was signed on the 800th anniversary of the signing of the historical document..
The group is a non-profit community group, whose main aim is to improve the environment in around Bilbrook. Gavin has previously joined the group in a Litter Pick with the Friends of Bilbrook which saw the group, together with Bilbrook Parish Council, visit every street in Bilbrook and collect 21 bags of litter and opened their multi-use games area.
After planting the tree Gavin commented: “I think it is fantastic that Friends of Bilbrook are doing something which isn’t only brilliant for the environment, but also planting the yew tree which is so symbolic of the signing of the Magna Carta. I am a great admirer of all the work that the Friends of Bilbrook do in our local area and it was wonderful to take part in the planting of all these trees which will be admired by current and future generations.”
