Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, calls for the reopening of the Carl Bridgewater case.
Gavin is calling for a review into the murder of Carl Bridgewater, which occurred at Yew Tree Farm near Stourbridge in 1978.
Carl Bridgewater was murdered when he disturbed a burglary while delivering papers to Yew Tree Farm in Prestwood. A recent Channel 4 documentary has thrown doubt upon the alibi of initial suspect Bert Spencer thanks in part to the involvement of criminologist Professor David Wilson. In light of the questions raised by the documentary, Gavin is calling upon the Home Secretary, the Solicitor General and the Chief Constable of Staffordshire police to consider reopening the case.
Gavin commented: “It is terrible that the true killer of Carl Bridgewater has never been held to account. I strongly support calls for the case to be looked at afresh in view of this possible new evidence and very much hope that we may finally be able to see whoever was responsible for this shocking crime brought to justice.”
