Sir Gavin Williamson visited Chillington Hall as part of English Tourism Week, meeting members of the Giffard family and touring the ground floor of the Hall.
English Tourism Week provides an essential opportunity to showcase the outstanding quality, range and value of English tourism. Making up over 80% of the UK’s visitor economy before the pandemic, English tourism in 2019 generated over £100 billion a year and supported 2.6 million jobs. This week provides the spotlight to once again put tourism front of mind with key stakeholders and showcase the amazing work that goes on each and every day to build strong and resilient destinations.
Chillington Hall has been the home of the Giffard family for over 800 years and is located on the Staffordshire / Shropshire border. The Hall and Estate are steeped in history and visitors can experience the extensive variety of events, tours and walks on offer.
Sir Gavin said: “With over 19.4 million domestic day trips in Staffordshire before the pandemic, it is essential that destinations like Chillington Hall are publicised and celebrated – not only for their historical beauty, but also for the benefits of such attractions to the local economy. If you find yourself with a spare afternoon on your holiday, I cannot recommend Chillington Hall enough. It’s fantastic grounds and beautiful interiors are not to be missed.”
