Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, recently attended the Flower Festival at St. Benedict Biscop Church, in Wombourne.
The event, which took place from 29th May to 2nd June, was held to celebrate the restoration and refurbishment that has taken place in the church over the past two years.
Almost 800 visitors came to view the displays – designed around the theme ‘Hearts and Minds and Hands and Voices - over the four day period.
Refreshments were available opposite the church and a plant stall, and tombola, also proved popular.
All the money raised went towards the Church restoration fund and the second phase of laying a new tiled floor in the venue.
Gavin said: “I was very grateful to be invited to attend the preview of the Flower Festival. The flower displays were all incredibly beautiful and showed a great deal of creativity.
“I am delighted that so many people came to see the show and hope that St. Benedict Biscop Church has raised enough money to begin the next stage of its ongoing restoration project. The church contributes a huge amount to the local community and it is great to see residents come together in its support.”
On the 21st to the 28th of June, St. Benedict Biscop Church will also be playing host to the 6th Wombourne Music Festival.
The Thursday and Friday evenings will see a return visit from two favourite artists, internationally renowned virtuoso pianist Warren Mailley-Smith and organist Janet Dowsett.
The week will be rounded off by the ‘Last Night of the Wombourne Proms’. The programme will include an afternoon concert by ‘Nostalgia,’ with afternoon tea, and an ‘Old Time Music Hall’ show, with performances by a number of talented local people.
