Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, nominated Marjorie Tunicliffe from his constituency to attend a reception for teachers from across the country on Wednesday 11th January, hosted by Prime Minister David Cameron at 10 Downing Street.
Mrs Tunnicliffe, headmistress of Codsall High School, Perton Middle School and Bilbrook Middle School, will retire at the end of the school year after 11 years in charge. Under her leadership the high school has made the ‘outstanding’ Ofsted grade, dramatically improved GCSE grades and was ranked the number 1 school in the area in 2010 after being ranked 45th three years previously.
Prime Minister David Cameron said: “Delivering the best schools and skills for our young people, so that they can fulfil their potential and get on in life, is a central part of our long-term economic plan. With such dedicated and inspiring teachers in our schools I know we can ensure our children get the best chance to succeed. It was an honour to celebrate their commitment at this reception.”
Gavin said: “Marjorie has done a fantastic job as headmistress over the past 11 years, bringing the school from a ‘satisfactory’ level to be rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted during her time at the school. She has helped secure the futures of the Middle Schools in her area and made Codsall High School the highest rated school for A Levels in South Staffordshire. She will be greatly missed by both pupils and members of staff when she leaves this year.”
