Gavin Williamson MP for South Staffordshire was joined by many parents and children as they marched from Perton to Codsall High School calling for free home to school transport to be awarded to all children in Perton who attend Codsall High School on Saturday.
The march along the highly dangerous route was attended by over fifty parents and pupils who wished to make the point to the County Council.
Commenting on this Gavin Williamson MP said:
“I know firsthand from doing the walk that this is not a safe route to ask a child to walk along. I was disappointed that no one on the County Council had the courtesy to turn up but it does go to demonstrate the strength of feeling among those in Perton who want to see free home to school transport awarded for all children in the village.
This route is not safe as the only way that we were able to cross the A41 was thanks to the assistance of the Police who were able to stop traffic. Quite obviously this is not a service available to children when they go to school. That is why it is essential that the County Council acts on the 938 signature strong petition that has been delivered to them. It is time that the strong will of local people was listened to and I would like to see action taken.’
The march was joined by Parish Councillors, District Councillors and County Councillor Dave Bilson.
