Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has welcomed plans to upgrade a Post Office branch in Wombourne.
Blakeley Post Office, located in The Co-op, 3-4 Giggetty Lane, is to be modernised into one of the Post Office’s new main style branches next month.
The change is part of a major programme modernising branches across the Post Office network seeing up to 8,000 branches modernised and additional investment in over 3,000 community branches.
The newly refurbished branch would have longer opening hours making it more convenient for businesses and residents in Wombourne, opening from 8.00 every morning until 6.00 in the evening, 7 days a week.
In order for refurbishments to take place the branch will close on Saturday 8th July at 12:30. The new Post Office will be opening on Tuesday 25th July at 13:00. Alternative Post Offices can be found in the Co-op on School Road, Wombourne and Swindon Post Office located at 19 High Street, Swindon.
Commenting on the upgrade Gavin said: “I am so pleased that the Post Office has confirmed their proposals to upgrade Blakeley Post Office on Giggetty Lane. The Post Office plays a vital part in our communities in South Staffordshire and has long provided a platform for essential and every day government services.
“This is fantastic news for residents in Wombourne. This is one in a number of branches that have undergone refurbishment as part of the modernisation programme, benefitting residents right across the constituency.”
