Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, visited Wombourne Community Centre last week to view the tapestry made by the Wombourne Women’s Institute to commemorate the millennium.
The tapestry is now permanently displayed in the main hall of the Wombourne Community Centre and Library after Gavin contacted the County Council, requesting that the tapestry be put on show for the whole community to enjoy.
The Library already has a mosaic created by local group High Flyers and staff felt the millennium tapestry would further add to the work currently on display in the centre.
Gavin said: “I was present at the official unveiling of the millennium tapestry and was incredibly impressed by the all hard work that had obviously gone into the project. It is only right now that the community of Wombourne get to enjoy and appreciate all the effort that went into creating it.
“The Wombourne Community Centre and Library is the perfect location to display the tapestry. We already have the mosaic created by the High Flyers and the addition of the tapestry are great representations of two of the brilliant community groups we have in Wombourne. It is a fantastic commemoration of the millennium celebrations and I know that over the coming years it will be greatly appreciated by all the members of the public who visit the venue.”
