Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, visited the primary school in Wombourne to speak about Parliament and democracy.
Students at St Bernadette's have been learning all about Parliament and democracy this term. To enhance their learning, Gavin was invited to the school to speak to pupils about his role as a Member of Parliament. After touring the school and visiting each class, he took part in a Q&A session with Year 6 who had prepared some challenging questions for him.
Commenting on the visit, Gavin said: "I had a great time visiting St Bernadette’s in Wombourne last week to speak about my role as an MP. The pupils asked some brilliant questions and I was really pleased to see that they are passionate about learning.
I was so impressed to hear that 100% of pupils in Year 6 reached the national standard in reading, writing, maths and spelling this year, receiving excellent SATs results. This is such a fantastic achievement and pupils should be incredibly proud of themselves. I know that staff work so hard to help pupils reach their potential and this has certainly had a highly positive impact."
