Sir Gavin Williamson visited Stafford College’s Institute of Technology (IoT) to witness first hand the excellent progress that is being made on the £22.5 million development.
The IoT, located off Castle Street in Stafford, forms part of the Stafford Station Gateway Project and is expected to be completed by the end of May – ready to welcome its first cohort of learners in September 2025.
Once open, the new institution will deliver high-quality technical skills training in priority sectors with particularly pressing skills needs, including advanced engineering and manufacturing, construction, digital technologies, and health sciences.
The three-storey facility will boast conference rooms, a bistro, a lecture theatre, and immersive industry-standard equipment. This has the potential to significantly enrich the learning experience.
Craig Hodgson, Principle and Chief Executive of Newcastle Stafford Colleges Group said: “I was delighted to welcome Sir Gavin to the IoT site as it nears completion. With industry-driven training designed by employers and clear progression pathways, the IoT will prepare both young people and adults for skilled technical roles, while helping local businesses access a highly skilled workforce.”
Sir Gavin said: “It is such a pleasure to see the significant progress being made with the IoT development. Having been significantly involved in the project’s funding when Secretary of State for Education, I am thrilled that the project is moving at speed.
“The facility will transform the learning environment for students, with cutting edge technology and industry-standard equipment providing a fantastic learning platform to enable learners to excel in their chosen careers.
“I know that these facilities will have a transformative impact on both learners and teachers, and very much look forward to seeing the IoT’s full completion.”
