Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, visited Great Wyrley resident Andy Evans at his company EDS Couriers Ltd based in the Cannock area.
EDS Couriers is a family run business which has operated for over 50 years. The team specialises in delivering parcels worldwide and is a member of the Alternative Parcel Company (APC) with over 120 depots across the country. They also have a pallet division, which is part of the Palletforce organisation with over 100 depots Nationwide.
The company recently secured £3 million of investment through funding partners NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland and Lombard Asset Finance, allowing the company to double its capacity, moving onto a new 2.5 acre site in Heath Hayes, Cannock.
Gavin toured the facility with Andy, learning more about the company’s expansion since their beginning in a petrol station and workshop by Andy’s father Len and elder brother Gary in the 1960s. They currently employ around 150 people from the local area and deliver an estimated 630,000 parcels each year, with the highest delivery success rate in the industry thanks to the hard work and dedication of the EDS team.
Company owner Andy Evans said: “It was pleasure to meet Gavin and a surprise that he was so understanding of some of the challenges local businesses are facing in the 21st century. For Gavin to take out time from his busy schedule speaks volumes that he is keen to be a part of the local community and offer advice and assistance when needed.”
Commenting on his visit to the company Gavin said: “I had such a great time meeting Andy and learning more about the company and hearing about their impressive success rate over the past few years.
“Len, Andy and the family have built up a fantastic, successful, local business; it’s great to see a business doing so well, offering such a high quality service both for local residents and customers across the world.
“It was great to hear about the company’s expansion since beginning from a small two car garage to this fantastic new premises and with the securing of £3 million pounds of investment, I can only see EDS moving from strength to strength in the future and I look forward to hearing more about their success.”
