Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has urged the Council to grit roads in and around Perton after the recent cold weather has left them icy and a danger to drivers.
Gavin has been contacted by a number of concerned Perton residents after the recent spell of cold weather has left a number of roads in the village covered in ice and have not been gritted.
A number of residents reported the loss of control of their vehicles on the roads leading to The Parkway, Wolverhampton Road and Pattingham, a number noting the proximity to local schools.
After hearing from the constituents, Gavin called on the Divisional Highways Inspector at Staffordshire County Council to seek an immediate resolution to the issue which has left a number of the roads in a very dangerous condition.
On hearing about the dangerous conditions Gavin said: “I was extremely concerned to hear that the roads in and around Perton had not been gritted despite the extreme temperatures that we have been experiencing over the past few days.
"It's deeply worrying that roads close to schools are so dangerous and that drivers and pedestrians are put at risk every time they leave their homes. Now that the cold weather is continuing I hope that the roads will be gritted, it is clear that better preparations are needed to protect Perton residents from the major risk of accidents and falls that come with the icy roads. I have urged the Council to find seek an immediate resolution to this issue and put the safety of Perton residents first.”
