Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, is urging constituents to prepare their homes for winter by taking steps to help keep homes warm as temperatures start to fall, whilst saving money on their energy bills.
A number of simple steps can be taken that can significantly reduce bills and keep people’s energy bills warm during this winter period. One of the best ways to keep homes warm is to ensure it is properly insulated. Major energy companies are offering loft and cavity wall insulation for free which can save up to £150 a year on energy bills.
Constituents may also be entitled to extra support from the Government and their energy supplier if they meet certain criteria. Last year around 550,000 customers in the UK received the Warm Home Discount – a one off discount of £135 on the electricity bill, which is rising to £140 this year.
Ian Peters, Managing Director of British Gas Residential Energy said, “We know that household budgets are tight and many people will be concerned about their winter energy bill. There is help available, and we urge customers to get in touch to find out what advice and support is on offer.”
Gavin said: “As temperatures fall, heating bills begin to rise. There are a number of simple steps that everyone should take to make sure that they’re doing all they can to keep their bills lower and their homes warmer.”
“I encourage constituents to get in contact with their energy supplies to see what help is available for them. Being energy efficient and keeping bills under control is so important and I advise everyone in South Staffordshire to get in touch with their energy supplier to find out what support is on offer.”
