Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, visited members of Coven Forget-Me-Not Club to attend their Big Cuppa and Cake afternoon.
The event raised money for Compton Hospice, providing care and support for families living with incurable illnesses across South Staffordshire and surrounding areas and Katharine House Hospice, a free hospice care services in Staffordshire for people faced with a terminal illness and aims to enable our patients and those close to them to live as fully as possible.
The Coven Forget Me Club is a local social group for over 55s. Members are able to take part in coach trips, listen to Speakers, play Bingo and go out for meals. The club meets every Tuesday, from 2-4pm, at the Coven Memorial Hall.
The aim of the group is to bring together elderly residents from the Coven and Brewood area for social activities and outings. The group provides a local voluntary mini bus paid for in part by Club funds and partly by those using it enabling those who would otherwise be isolated take part in social activities.
After his visit Gavin said: “It was a pleasure to be able to drop in and visit members of this brilliant group for Coven and Brewood residents. The group provides as essential service for those members of our society that may feel isolated due to the fact that they cannot leave the house without help.
“Some members would find it difficult to have social contact or get out and about without the support of the Club. Given that South Staffordshire is in a rural area, providing the mini bus makes such a huge difference and I’d like to thank all those involved in the running of this fantastic group for the invaluable work that they do.”
