Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, recently joined residents at the festive event
After forming as a group two years ago, the Coven Light Committee has worked tremendously hard this year to organise the Christmas light switch-on in the village. Earlier in the year, the committee hosted several fundraising events such as a Barn Dance and Skittles Evening which went towards purchasing new lights.
At the event, there was live entertainment from the South Staffordshire Community Pop Choir and the Scout and Guides uniformed groups.
Local businesses also got involved in the event, and the Rainbow Pub in Coven held a raffle raising over £120 for the Committee. Alongside this, generous local residents donated money which, as well as money raised by businesses and the event itself, will go towards funding new lights and displays around the village.
Commenting on the event, Gavin said: "I really enjoyed switching on the Coven Christmas lights recently. The Coven Light Committee has worked so hard again this year and, as expected, the event was fantastic.
I was really pleased to see that local businesses and residents contributed towards making the event a success, and I'm really looking forward to seeing the new lights and displays that the committee will be purchasing with funds raised."
