Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire attended a ‘Big Brew’ event at St Mary and St Chad’s Church, Brewood in support of Fairtrade Fortnight.
The event, which was support by the Brewood Co-operative store, served Fairtrade refreshments and sold a wide range of Fairtrade crafts and foods. Members of the Church hosted a short presentation about the principles of Fairtrade and how the UK is supporting projects around the world.
Brewood has been involved with Fairtrade for the past 30 years and has hosted a number of events over this period of time to support the organisation.
The Big Brew event was one of a number of events held across South Staffordshire during Fairtrade Fortnight, which this year took place between Monday 27th February and Sunday 12th March, including a visit to South Staffordshire Council from St Nicholas’ First School Pupils who sold their Fairtrade refreshments to Council employees and visitors.
Commenting on the event Gavin said: “It was great to visit the Big Brew event at St Mary and St Chad’s Church in Brewood last weekend and see what fantastic work they have been doing to support Fairtrade over the past 30 years. A huge thank you to all those involved in organising this brilliant event and spreading the word about the work that Fairtrade do across the world.
“I was proud to hear of all events that took place across South Staffordshire over Fairtrade fortnight. Buying Fairtrade makes a huge difference to farmers and workers in developing countries and it is wonderful to see how events like this can support such important businesses in other countries.”
