Sir Gavin Williamson has strongly welcomed the news that the M54 and M6 Link Road has finally been given the green light.
The announcement was vital due to there currently being no direct motorway link allowing motorists using the M54 to get onto the northbound carriage of the M6, meaning they must use roads such as the A460.
Residents in Featherstone, Hilton, and Shareshill were being blighted by increased congestion and access issues.
The link road has also been hugely welcomed by local businesses as a driver of economic growth due to improving the traffic flow on east-west and north-south routes.
Sir Gavin said: “I am thrilled that this long-awaited link road has finally been given the go-ahead which will be of great benefit to residents and businesses alike.
“I have long campaigned for the introduction of a M54 and M6 link road which will improve the lives of residents in villages such as Featherstone, Hilton, and Shareshill.
“Increased congestion was a nightmare for residents with reports of access issues onto properties, missing vital appointments, and air quality concern.
“I am now urging spades in the ground and this project to not be delayed any longer than necessary.”
