Sir Gavin Williamson joined young people at Crystal Dance Academy in various musical theatre routines as the group prepares for upcoming performances.
The Academy, based in Hednesford, has participants from Great Wyrley, Cheslyn Hay, Huntington and across Staffordshire. Crystal Dance is a multi-award winning category which aims to inspire, challenge, and empower dancers of all abilities.
Named dance academy of the year for the past two years, members of the Academy have performed at leading venues including the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and various theatres in the West End.
As well as hearing about upcoming performances and individual routines, Sir Gavin participated in rehearsals and discussed his role as a Member of Parliament.
Kirsty Colmer, Principal of Crystal Dance Academy said: “It was a real pleasure to welcome Sir Gavin to our musical theatre group. The children were thrilled to see an MP getting involved so enthusiastically – especially in an environment where they normally expect formality or a distance from public figures.
“His willingness to join in the fun meant a lot to them, and it reminded us all how powerful community engagement can be when it’s genuine. We are incredibly grateful for the support and hope it sparks even more awareness around the importance of creative, funded spaces for young people.”
Sir Gavin said: “It was an absolute pleasure to visit Crystal Dance Academy – I was really impressed with the enthusiasm and talent demonstrated by young people and their eagerness to work together and create innovative routines.
“Dance has so many physical and mental health benefits and is such a brilliant way of allowing people to express themselves and socialise with like-minded peers.
“I have no doubt whatsoever that there are future starts in the Academy and I look forward to seeing graduates on TV and in theatres.”
