Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, visited Wombourne Community Centre on Saturday to see a display put on by the World Owl Trust.
Gavin met with Alan Peace from The World Owl Trust and a number of volunteers to talk about the latest news of The Trust and the progress of the site of the new World Owl Centre at Himley Hall near Dudley.
As a Patron of The World Owl Trust, Gavin presented them with two cheques, one for £1,500 from Rodbaston Volunteers who have been raising funds over a number of months and £6,000 from the Independent Conservation and Wildlife Society. The money will go towards the building of free flight aviaries for the owls at the new centre and enable the Trust to continue with their conservation work.
Alan Peace of the World Owl Trust commented: “Gavin’s support for the Trust is very much appreciated by all the Trustees of the charity. His visit to the Wombourne event helped to increase visitors’ awareness of the project to build the new World Owl Centre in South Staffordshire.”
Commenting on the event Gavin said: “It is great to hear about the fantastic progress of the World Owl Centre in Wombourne this weekend and to present them with this money for the Himley site. I had a fantastic time meeting Trust volunteers at the Himley Hall site last year and helping with the clearing out of the site in preparation for the big move and I know that this money will go a long way to helping the new centre.
“It takes a lot of hard work for the site to be prepared and I’d like to thank all those that are putting in so much dedication to ensure that the site is prepared for the next stages of building. I am really looking forward to coming to the centre after it opens. Congratulations to all those who took part in raising so much money that will go a long way to helping with The Trust’s work.”
