Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire has welcomed the award of £75,000 from the Veolia Environmental Trust to fund a project in his constituency.
This month at the December Board meeting, The Veolia Environmental Trust awarded £75,000 of funding from the Landfill Communities Fund to a project in South Staffordshire.
The project will install new play equipment, gates, fencing and a safe play surface at Joeys Land Play Park in Bilbrook. The existing equipment was unsafe and did not provide play opportunities for all children. The new play area will be accessible and welcoming to children of all abilities and will provide a safe place for children and families to play and socialise.
The Veolia Environmental Trust has been supporting community and environmental projects through the Landfill Communities Fund for over 20 years. Since they were established in 1997, Veolia has made contributions totalling over £93 million, enabling over 2,600 projects to be successfully completed. These have included projects to repair woodland footpaths, improve community halls and install skateparks and playgrounds funded through the Landfill Communities Fund.
The Landfill Communities Fund (LCF) is a tax credit scheme enabling Landfill Operators (LOs) to contribute money to organisations enrolled with ENTRUST as Environmental Bodies (EBs). They use this funding for a wide range of community and environmental projects in the vicinity of landfill sites. Since its inception in 1996, over £1.6 billion has been spent on almost 60,000 projects across the UK.
Gavin said: “Safe spaces where families and children can come together are vital to our community so I could not be more pleased to hear the Veolia Environmental Trust has awarded £75,000 to Bilbrook Parish Council to create a new accessible play space at Joeys Land Play Park in Bilbrook.”
