Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, opened Codsall’s annual Christmas Tree Festival at St Nicholas’ Church in Codsall last week.
The event, which has taken place annually for the past five years, saw 32 different trees, decorated by a by local schools, businesses and different organisations from the village, displayed to raise money for the upkeep of the Church.
During the opening of the festival there were performances by St Nicholas’ First School Choir, who sang Christmas carols. As well as the trees decorated by individual groups, there was a ‘Tree of Remembrance’ dedicated to those who had lost their lives.
After visiting the Festival Gavin said: “I was honoured to have been asked once again to officially open the Christmas Tree Festival at St Nicholas’ Church. This event is a great way to get into the spirit of Christmas and has taken place in the village over the last five years. It is clear that a lot of hard work and dedication went into decorating each tree making the church look truly spectacular.
“I was especially glad to hear the carols by St Nicholas’ First School Choir who gave a fantastic performance. It is a wonderful way to raise money for the church, which plays such an important role in Codsall. I’d like to thank the organisers of the festival for once again putting on such a brilliant display.”
