Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, joined staff and pupils at Brewood CE Middle School
The newly refurbished Science Lab has just undergone a £60,000 makeover which includes new practical facilities, equipment, tables, seating and storage; the costs were met by accessing a Staffordshire County Council Capital grant of £45 000 and a contribution by the school of £15 000.
Gavin joined staff and pupils to officially open the facility and unveiled a celebratory plaque commemorating the day. He also spoke to the children about the importance of science and they asked him a series of questions about his role as a Member of Parliament.
Executive Headteacher David Swift said; “I am delighted that we have this excellent new Science laboratory as it will provide pupils with a much improved learning environment. Science is a strength at Brewood. The school has excellent science results and the new Lab can only help improve these further. Pupils greatly enjoy science here and many go on to study this at GCSE and ‘A’ Level at High School”.
Commenting on the day, Gavin said: "I was so pleased to be invited to Brewood CE Middle School to officially open the new Science Laboratory. These improvements will enrich the learning environment even further, hopefully encouraging pupils to one day pursue careers in science. I want to thank staff and pupils for making me feel so welcome on the day and I really look forward to visiting again in the near future."
