Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, joined local residents on Saturday at their Teddy Bear’s Picnic event to celebrate the official opening.
Since establishing as a group in 2016, the Coven Playing Field Committee and Brewood and Coven Parish Council, with the passionate support of Gavin, have worked tirelessly to raise funds for the rejuvenation of the playing fields. This includes the installation of new benches, a planting area, new play equipment including a new 4m high treehouse with slide, a 4m high activity net, a roundabout, a basket swing, a zip wire and play panel.
To celebrate reaching their target, the group hosted a ‘Teddy Bears Picnic’ for local residents. Gavin officially opened the event by cutting the ribbon, as well as commenting on how hard the committee and local residents have worked on this project.
Commenting on the event, Gavin said “I really enjoyed officially opening the new and improved Coven Playing Park on Saturday and meeting with local residents who felt incredibly proud of what has been achieved. I was so humbled to see the final result of all the hard work Coven Playing Field Committee, alongside Brewood and Coven Parish Council, have put into improving the Playing Park after many months of fundraising.
Their work in the community is highly valued and I very much hope that others are inspired by their efforts. I look forward to seeing the park improve further through the Midcounties Co-Operative who have recently chosen the Coven Playing Field Committee as their Charity Partner”
