Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, will be selling poppies with The Royal British Legion in Perton and Codsall this Saturday.
Gavin will meet British Legion volunteers outside Sainsbury’s in Perton at 11am to raise money for the essential welfare work of Service men and women, veterans and their families. He will then travel to Codsall from 12.30 to continue selling poppies.
The Royal British Legion in Staffordshire is the leading ex-Service organisation in the country that supports around 9 million people in the UK. The Royal British Legion in Staffordshire has 66 branches with 8 groups, 13 clubs and over 7,500 members around the county.
Gavin said: “The British Legion does an incredible amount of work within the local community. Every year volunteers of the British Legion, throughout South Staffordshire and across the country, really punch above their weight in terms of the amount of money that they raise. I really hope that this year, the year that marks the centenary of the start of the First World War, that people support the efforts of the British Legion and help to raise money for such a wonderful cause.
“It is no wonder, with all the efforts and hard work of the Royal British Legion in Staffordshire, that it is the leading ex-Service organisation in the county. It’s important that we support those whose relatives who made the ultimate sacrifice, not only in the two World Wars, but also those who fought in military campaigns in Afghanistan and in Iraq. This past week we saw the end of the combat operations in Afghanistan. We will always remember the courage of those who served there on our behalf and never forget those who died fighting for their country.”
