Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, visited St Nicholas’ First School in Codsall, last week, to host a lesson for year 4 pupils.
Pupils at the Codsall school are currently learning about Members of Parliament, the House of Commons and how democracy works. Gavin met with pupils and answered their questions about the job of an MP and also about how the role of Chief Whip works.
Following on from their lessons about Parliament, Gavin heard how pupils will be learning about debates and he explained how debates in the Chamber worked and gave them tips on how to debate with each other.
On his visit Gavin commented: “It was a real delight to visit St Nicholas’ First School and take part in the lesson with Year 4 pupils to talk about how Parliament works and how we take part in different types of debates.
“I was very impressed with how they picked up debating skills and I am sure that when it comes to demonstrating debates in class they will do extremely well. I look forward to hearing about the topics that they will discuss in, I’m sure what will be, a very lively session!”
