Sir Gavin Williamson is fighting against the development of up to 50 dwellings on East Road in Featherstone.
Concern has been raised regarding the disruption that heavy construction traffic will further damage roads after significant problems were created by the adjacent Harvest Grove development.
Local services are already under pressure. Featherstone Academy and the local GP surgery is already near full capacity, whilst existing congestion on the A460 is another concern. Whilst the M54-M6 link road will ease traffic problems, further development is likely to exacerbate congestion.
Residents have also highlighted the impact on wildlife with reports that the adjacent development has caused a noticeable decline in wildlife sightings due to the loss of natural habitats.
Sir Gavin said: “It is deeply concerning that more development is being earmarked for Featherstone, when it was quite clear previously that provisions had not been made regarding infrastructure.
“Damage to roads and pavements created untold problems for residents, with huge craters in the road affecting vehicles and leaving the area unsightly.
“I will be fighting against this development not only to protect our green spaces, but also to ensure that infrastructure is protected and can be safely used by residents.”
