Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has called for an urgent meeting with the Council to discuss the introduction of charges at Household Management Sites across the constituency.
The charges, which came in at the beginning of this week will see residents have to pay to dispose certain types of household waste.
As a result of the changes, residents will be charged £3 for each bag of soil and rubble, plasterboard and £4 for each tyre at each household waste and recycling centres.
A number of concerned constituents contacted Gavin after fears that the charges would increase fly-tipping across South Staffordshire. Reported cases of fly-tipping have increased in the past year, especially in the more rural areas.
Gavin has called for an urgent meeting to raise the concerns of constituents that have contacted him on the issue.
On the issue Gavin commented: “These charges are ridiculous. This will only lead to an increase in fly-tipping which is an extremely important issue in South Staffordshire and has caused untold damage to our countryside.
“I look forward to meeting with the Council and I hope that the concerns of my constituents will be listened to. Fly-tipping has such a destructive effect on our country lanes and villages right across South Staffordshire and it is time that we come up with a practical and constructive solution to this problem.”
