Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has backed residents calls to turn a telephone box in Oaken into a community book swap.
The Adopt a Kiosk scheme, by BT, allows communities to adopt telephone boxes that are rarely or no longer in use for as little as £1.
Residents of Oaken, have expressed concerns over plans to potentially axe the telephone box and believe that its preservation is vital to the identity of the village.
Commenting on the budding plans, Gavin said: “I think the idea of creating a community book swap is a great idea. It is a fantastic opportunity to keep this great example of true British culture and would encapsulate the community feel here in Oaken”.
