Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has called on South Staffordshire Council to replant the trees that have been chopped down outside the council offices.
Several trees have been removed off the corner of Wolverhampton Road and Histons Hill within the last few days, prompting calls for the trees to be replaced.
The plan to cut down the trees are to pave the way for an extension to council property as well as extra car parking spaces on council grounds.
The decision to cut down the trees, has caused frustration with residents and has led to disgruntled members of the community to voice their concerns.
Commenting on the decision to axe the trees, Gavin said: “It is extremely disappointing to see the sheer volume of trees removed by the council, and no guarantee as it stands of them being replaced. Many people take great pride in trees being so commonplace in South Staffordshire and I would like to see the District Council pledge to replant twice as many trees as soon as possible elsewhere within Codsall”.
