Gavin Williamson MP for South Staffordshire has called upon County Councillors on Staffordshire County Council’s planning authority to reject proposals by Biffa to build a gigantic incinerator at the Poplars Colliery Site at Cannock.
The enormous incinerator which would tower over not only Great Wyrley but also Cannock and the surrounding South Staffordshire countryside was initially given approval.
Commenting on this Gavin Williamson MP said:
‘This proposal is a disgrace and I have called for all County Councillors on the Committee to reject this monstrosity. We want to see more of our waste recylcled as an alternative to incineration. We already have an incinerator under construction at Four Ashes and if we are not careful we could witness the A5 being turned into an incinerator corridor. This is something that neither my constituents nor myself want to see.’
Gavin Williamson MP has written to all members of the South Staffordshire Council Planning Committee on behalf of his constituents to outline objections to the increase in vehicle movements travelling to the incinerator through Great Wyrley and Cheslyn Hay. He has also highlighted that incinerators are against Government policy.
