South Staffordshire MP Gavin Williamson today called on British Waterways to clear up some of the graffiti that is destroying some of the historic canal bridges on the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal in Wombourne.
Gavin has contacted the Chief Executive of British Waterways following a request from Councillor Jackie Granger, Chairman of Wombourne Best Kept Village Committee whose members unfortunately cannot clean the graffiti themselves as they are classed as listed structures.
Commenting on this Gavin said:
‘It is very important that we do all we can to preserve the beautiful nature of our village of Wombourne and I am delighted to do I can to improve these beautiful towpaths and bridges. Wombourne came second in Staffordshire’s best kept village competition in 2010 and I think we should do all we can to ensure that it goes on to maintain or improve on this.
